TOP STORY: The 75th Acadamy Awards (Oscars 2003)
The 75th Oscar where held this evening with out much drama
and certainly with less political actions that where sort of expected before,
and what a show it was.
What we saw was Mr. Moore (who got the award for best feature documentary
for his “bowling for columbine -which we recomend buying btw) was clearly
outspoken against President Bush, and a few actors said a few things against
the war. Even the academy president said a few lines about the trouble’s
of war. Maybe the most moving speech came from, academy winner for best male
leading act, Moore (“the pianist”).
So how was the show? A lot less glam and a whole lot more focus on the movies
it self, as it should be. Most Oscars went to Chicago as expected but not
as many as one would think looking at the amazing amount of nomination it
got. The highlights: a overdue oscar for best director went to Roman Polanski
whom can not set his foot in the usa without being arrested due to a sex
with a minor conviction that he baled out on in the 70s. We where also very
pleased to see spirited Away receiving the prize for best animated movie,
and Chicago for best picture, a very moved Nicole Kidman accepted the prize
for best female lead in The Hours, and Catherina Zeta Jones for best supporting
female supporting act for her role in Chicago. Maybe the biggest surprise
came when eminem got the prize for best song. Lord of The Rings got two awards
in the technical categories and Frida got two Oscars one for best score.
